Recording
Another example of how we are afraid of closing doors is to switch off the laptop when we really have nothing better to do. its like if we close it and we worry we will need to do something really quickly and have to wait to boot up. fact of the matter is there is nothing that is tat urgent and even if so, u can jsut boot it up later, saving energy and the environment at the same time.
The Long Tail: rising individualism where people no longer follow the mainstream and where the big names matter only as much as the smaller names. eg. MTV recording vs self-made game videos.
Marketing efforts similarly have been affected. the share of pie of attention is shrinking for the mainstream.
And people can be described now as the more they see, the more likely they will find something they like. as compared to the distant past where there is no alternative.
past distribution considerations: space rental on shelves of bookstores, music stores. – must sell at least 4 items per year to justify the costs of taking up shelf space. this is not relevant to the online medium where the only space is web inventory and that is nowhere near the cost of renting a brick and mortar store. In the past, even if you have 2 million potential customers, it means nothing if the local potential is not sizeable.
We live in a world of abundance not scarcity where there is now many many alternatives to choose from. where even Walmart can have inventory of 5000 cds, = 25000 tracks, rhapsody holds more than 1.5 million songs for users to choose from.
And i realized my untidy words are not legible. zzzz
KS told me about the groups’ eventual degree and i was quite shocked. He was the only 2nd lower among our group the rest were 3rd classes and merits. How can that be?? However, somewhere inside, i felt a relief which i somehow guiltily felt. That i was not alone with a 3rd class. The question remains. Now i compare myself with people who have similar results as i have and i feel better but….isn’t this similar to gloating over others poorer results? And may i say the gladness you feel when your results are good. and better than the others is of the same type? We do not know the true value of an item until…we see a comparison.
“I was part of that strange race of people aptly described as spending their lives doing things they detest to make money they don’t want to buy things they don’t need to impress people they dislike.”
-Emile Henry Gauvreau
